Board Member Spotlight: David Beaty, Operations Director, Bluestar Silicones USA Corp
What sets your organization apart from others in the industry?
Our organization focuses on its employees and its customers and strives to create opportunities for mutual success. We create silicone solutions with a personal touch.
Can you tell us about an experience that you are most proud of in your career?
I am proud of the opportunity that I had to be a part of a company that started in a converted fertilizer storage barn with 4 employees and grew by focusing on its employees and customers into a state of the art facility with more than 150 employees in North America serving specialty silicone customers worldwide.
What is one lesson in leadership that you’ve experienced that you think everyone could learn from?
Open and honest feedback and communication with employees is the most basic step in developing relationships with people and in coaching employee development and performance.
As you look to the future, what do you feel will be the most important thing for York County to focus on?
The two most important needs that I see for York county are infrastructure improvements and workforce development.
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking, and connections.
What is your role with the board? Why did you decide to become a member?
I was asked if I would serve on this board, and decided to participate to bring a perspective to the board from a specialty chemical manufacturing company located away from the I-77 corridor. The transportation and manpower issues are different in this section of the county. Also, having managed a major expansion in York County during the last few years gave me experience in dealing with economic development concerns and issues.
