From The Director's Desk. It is surreal to think that just over a year ago this month, we started to experience the effects of the Coronavirus that would slow down the economy and ultimately change the world. For most of us, having never lived through a global pandemic, chartering this new territory was extremely challenging, bringing along with it much uncertainty and fear.
Some twelve months later, we are beginning to see recovery in many areas of the economy. We are seeing rapid implementations of vaccines and declining COVID rates, as people gain a greater sense of confidence and a renewed hope of normalcy.
In York County, we are thankful indeed, as what could have been deemed as swimming upstream, looks more to be like persistent progress in the community overall. Reflected in our quarterly Economic Indicators, we can see these trends within our population as well as with industries and real estate activity. Even in the last quarter, we continue to see companies locate or expand here, like 3D System’s endeavor to accelerate their innovation, or Scentsy establishing a new operation in York County.
Also during these past several months, we began the important process of planning for our economic future. Working with a consultant to gain a more expansive perspective, input was gathered on the potential of how our future could look, and what activities or steps we may need to undertake to achieve this vision. These insights, to be shared next month with our leadership under the new Strategic Plan for Economic Development, lay out how this plan might set us on a course for the future.
And just like over the past year, though goals change and evolve over time within our growing community, one goal always stays the same. To make sure that now and in the future, York County remains -- The Location You Need. The Life You Want.
Sincerely,
– David Swenson, Director of York County Economic Development
