From The Director's Desk. 2022 was a great year in our state for economic development. The Palmetto State economy rebounded in employment and hit a record year with announcements totaling over $10 billion and more than 14,000 future jobs. Here in York County we had seven firms commit to investing $140 million and creating 274 new jobs. Much of this success in our state and local community was a result of our strong manufacturing companies, in particular, those in the automotive sector supplying the electric vehicle market.
In helping to keep our county competitive, it is critical for us to tune in to what our companies are thinking and feeling. This past year, in addition to sitting down with local companies on a monthly basis, we added a new Business Pulse Survey to gauge how companies have been doing over the past six months, as well as their forward-looking view of 2023. The survey (now set to run twice a year) was extremely informative in understanding the challenges and opportunities of businesses in York County.
With 2022 a record year and 2023 just getting started, we see more and more interest confirming that York County is -- The Location You Need. The Life You Want.
Sincerely, – David Swenson, Director of York County Economic Development
